Opening of schools for the 2nd term in the Western Province might be postponed, sources say.
Although the opening of the schools for the 2nd term across the whole country is scheduled for March 15, sources say the opening of the schools in the Wstern province might be postponed due to the spike of COVID-19.
Sources said discussions on the schools opening are being discussed between the education officials and health authorities.
It is learnt that the Director General of Health Services has so far not given approval to re-open schools in the Western Province.
Accordingly, sources say the A/L exam and the Grade 5 scholarship too will be further postponed.
There are 10,165 schools in the country and of that, 1356 are located in the Western Province. There are 401 schools in Colombo, 536 in Gampaha and 419 in Kalutara.
There are 932,431 students in the Western Province and 45.832 teachers.
