Thousands of jobless youth in the Anuradhapura District will get jobs in the garment industry soon as Renewable Energy Resources Development State Minister Duminda Dissanayake is promoting the industry in the District.
The State Minister urged the investors to start garment factories in the district at the Divisional Secretariat Divisional level. Abandoned garment factories will also be re-opened under the patronage of the State Minister. He visited the Thirappane Garment Factory in Anuradhapura recently and exchanged views with its Management and the employees.
State Minister Duminda Dissanayake said that the rural youth work at garment factories in outstations including in the Free Trade Zones since they do not find opportunities at factories in the area.
Many youth wish to join the garments industry in the area since they are reluctant to leave the area. A large number of jobs could be created in the district by starting more factories. Therefore, a number of public-private apparel factories will be set up for local and the foreign apparel market, the State Minister said.
A large number of garment factory employees who have returned home from the Free Trade Zones because of the COVID pandemic are now wasting their time and they will be employed at the new factories, the State Minister said.
