The office of the Matara police ASP has informed officials from the Matara district coordinating office of former Minister - Mangala Samaraweera and several Municipal councillors to report to the police.
Accordingly, Matara Municipal Councilors - Nandasena Sellahewa, and Nalin Abeygunawardena as well as Pradeshiya Sabha members - Lionel Kodikara were summoned to the ASP's office in Matara yesterday (03).
They have ben informed that an investigation is underway over a statement of former minister Samaraweera, where he had said that Sri Lanka not a Sinhala-Buddhist country.
The police officers have said a complaint has been lodged on this regard with a video. Accordingly, they have received higher orders to summon all those in the video and obtain statements from them whether or not the former minister had said thus, the police had said.
Opposition Leader of the Matara Municipal Council - Upul Nishantha and several staff members of Mangala Samaraweera's Matara coordinating office have also been summoned to the ASP's office today (04) to obtain statements on this regard.

Meanwhile, MP Mangala Samaraweera has made inquires on this regard from the Matara SSP yesterday (03) who has replied he has no idea about anything as such.
The website - leader.lk reports that Mr. Samaraweera has informed the Matara ASP that if they have received a complaint on his statement, they should obtain a statement from him first. He has further said that since he is coming to Matara on the weekends, whether he could have a time to do so then.
