Several Clergy and laity expressed their dismay, regarding the process followed to arrest former Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka at a joint media briefing in Pitakotte this evening,.
Ven. Hadigalle Wimalasara Thero stated that Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who was elected as the president of this country with majority Sinhala Buddhist votes is trying to silence a Buddhist leader better than him and tarnish his political career.
He added that the present government should refrain from using state powers and high hand tactics to silence prominent leader in this country and necessary legal action will be taken against the police officers and other factions who violated human rights.
UNP MP Karu Paranavithana stated that the present government did not receive the people’s mandate for this kind of behaviour and they expect the government leaders to fulfill their promises.
He ointed out that, the government has forgotten its obligations to the people and engaged in political vengeance targeting true leaders of this country. .
UNP MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara noted that even after MP was acquitted from the case, they have resumed investigations. He added that as the UNP they would stand by him.
Attorney-At-Law Gunaratne Wanninayake noted that motor bike collided with the vehicle damaging a section close to rear wheel and this was clear indication that the fault is with the bike rider.
