Sajith breaks his silence on threats to media, other incidents

New Democratic Front Presidential candidate at the recent Presidential election, Sajith Premadasa, today broke his silence on the intimidation of the media and other incidents reported since the end of the election.

In a statement today, Premadasa said that he felt the new Government must not be criticized as soon as it took office as it was given a mandate by the public.

However, he said that after what took place over the past few days, he could not remain silent anymore.

He said the kidnapping of an employee of the Swiss Embassy is a black mark on Sri Lanka.

Premadasa also noted that revenge is being taken against several prominent Police investigators.

He said that the media is also being intimidated after being assured freedom of expression and the right to information by the former Government.

Premadasa said that it was disappointing that the new Government could not ensure the mandate given by the voters for a safe and secure nation is protected.
