UPFA National List MP Malith Jayatillake had been requested to offer his seat to former President Maithripala Sirisena to enter parliament as an MP, but he had refused this request, Sri Lanka Mirror learns.
MP Malith had stated that if he offers his seat to Sirisena, he would not be able to step out in public with dignity.
However, after Malith Jayatillake had refused this request, MP Thilanga Sumathipala had offered to step down and offer his seat to Sirisena.
It is reported that in return Thilanga Sumathipala would be offered a high position at a state institution.
The SLFP is expected to be granted two Cabinet positions, but it has so far not been determined who would receive these posts.
