TNA decides on their favourable presidential candidate

Amidst attempts by prospective presidential candidates to woo the support of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), the party top brass is likely to take a decision favorable for New United Front (NUF) candidate Sajith Premadasa.

.This decision will be announced after arriving at a consensus on this matter at a special meeting chaired by leader of the TNA R.Sampanthan in Colombo today, MP Charles Nirmalanathan said.

He added that 13 point document has been submitted jointly by five political parties in the North to two frontline presidential candidates and the TNA is yet to receive a reply any one of them, he pointed out .

However TNA leader R.Sampanthan held a fruitful discussion with UNP leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe yesterday and the party’s decision is based on the out come of that discussion.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe reported to have told the TNA leader yesterday that he was ready to introduce a new constitution within an year based on the consensus reached at the Constitutional Assembly (CA).

TNA spokesman Jaffna District MP M. A. Sumanthiran said that their main concern was ‘the settlement of the Tamil national question’ through meaningful power sharing arrangement when extending support to any individual or party at the upcoming presidential election.

The TNA support was crucial for the NUF candidate Sajith Premadasa to win the presidential elections .
