Parties within the TNA, TELO and PLOTE have opposed the proposal put forward by the TNA Leader R. Sampanthan and its Spokesman M.A. Sumanthiran to support the National Democratic Front presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa.
They have decided to leave the TNA coalition in the event Sampanthan and Sumanthiran are adamant about their decision.
The TULF and the EPRLF which were members of the TNA coalition had left the party a while ago.
Expressing his views the Leader of the PLOTE Dharmalingham Sidharthan said that all that the TNA had done during the past was to support the current government and paid no heed to the issues faced by the Tamil people of the North and East.
He said both Sampanthan and Sumanthiran are working according to the directives of the UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and have been promoting the backing of Sajith Premadasa.
Therefore, he said under these circumstances they cannot continue to be part of the TNA, adding that what the TNA needs to do is be independent during this period.
