State sector employees are capable and they can make government institutions productive and profitable, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa said yesterday (22).
He told an election rally in Arangala, Kaduwela, that it had been proved during the Mahinda Rajapaksa government.
He said that following his election as President, a disciplined, active and productive government can be formed. “Capable persons would be appointed to high positions and institutions will be given targets. Government servants will be given necessary training and knowledge,” he said.
He added that these institutions should not be sold out. Rajapaksa said security must be guaranteed to attract investors to the country. “However local industries and the businesses should be protected before foreign investors are attracted,” Rajapaksa said.
“So we have decided to reduce the VAT to 8 percent.”
He also said the youth should be educated and imparted with knowledge to join with the fast developing economy in the Asian Region. He added that to achieve this target the investment on education should be increased.
