It is reported that President Maithripala Sirisena has reached an agreement with Mahinda Rajapaksa to join the election campaign in the North and East.
The Deshaya newspaper reported this and it further states that Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa have had two separate rounds of discussions with Maithripala Sirisena recently.
The discussion with Gotabaya has taken place this week.
The discussions have been friendly in nature and President and Mahinda Rajapaksa have finalized the alliance between the two parties. According to the agreement reached by the two leaders, the President will address propaganda rallies for Gotabaya in the North and East.
The official date that Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will come in to an agreement with Sri Lanka People's Alliance will be announced next week.
Akila sends a letter to Dayasiri requesting a discussion between UNP and SLFP
The United National Party (UNP), which is in the process of formulating a grand political alliance, has requested a meeting with SLFP to discuss a political partnership, reports The Sunday Morning.
According to the report,UNP General Secretary Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had sent a letter to the SLFP General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara yesterday (28) requesting for an appointment to discuss the formation of a political alliance between the two parties.
Kariyawasam had said that the UNP will be represented at the meeting by Party Leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP presidential candidate Minister Sajith Premadasa, and himself (Kariyawasam) as the Party Secretary.
SLFP General Secretary Jayasekara confirmed to The Sunday Morning that he had received a request for a meeting to discuss a political alliance with the UNP.
