UNP Deputy leader and Minister Sajith Premadasa has received the starting signal from party leader and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe to run the presidential race a short while ago, Minster Lakshman Bandara Kiriella announced short while ago ending the backdoor political maneuvering of interested parties.
The proposal to put forward Minister Sajith Premadasa as the UNP Presidential candidate is to be unanimously approved a the party working committee meeting tomorrow under a condition of abolishing executive presidency after winning the election, he said.
Minister Sajith Premadasa has submitted and proved his winning formula according to assumption of voting pattern percentage wise and opinion poll predictions with the backing of Tamil and Muslim political leaders in accordance with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe’s famous practice of slow and steady stance to win the race.
According to Mr Wickremesinghe simply having a large vote base in the UNP will not be enough to win the next Presidential elections.
When making a calculation using simple mathematics; it is now possible for any presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa to obtain over 50 percent of votes in an electorate of 16 million n voters when three or four main party candidates are already in the contest..
Minister Sajith Premadsa will be able to get 2.8 million extra votes to win presidential race pushing Gotabaya Rajapaksa into second place, political analysts predicted.
Although the UNP vote base has now eroded to 3.6 million, Mr. Premadasa will be able to convince each and every Tamil and Muslim voter that he is capable in managing the country uniting all communities.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa will have to get 1.4 million votes in addition to the SLPP vote base of 5 million a s the winning target is 6.4 million votes.
But with his past track record tainted with corruption and brutality, there is no possibility for him to get the votes of minority communities, they claimed.
