Thousands visit Port City without visas: Rohitha

Thousands of peope are visiting the Colombo Port City daily whereas the oppostion claimed earlier that a visa would have to be obtained to visit the Port City which they called a "Chinese Colony", Ports and Shipping Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardane said yesterday.

He told Parliament that some 22,000 people have visited the Port City on Tuesday (18) alone.

The Minister said the opposition was engaged in spreading malicious rumours about the Port City project from its inception.

Some opposition members had gone to the extent that even the Sigiriya rock would have to be burst out to supply granite to the Port City and said all claims proved mere rigmarolls at the end.

He said people were walking in freely into the Port City without obtaining any visas or tickets at present.

Abeygunawardene also said the opposition spread baseless myths in a similar manner when Expressways were built by the Mahinda Rajapaksa government.(Daily Mirror)
