SJB files FR against Yugadanavi shares transfer

General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Ranjith Madduma Bandara has filed a Fundamental Rights petition before the Supreme Court.

The petition seeks an injunction order to suspend the decision reached by the Cabinet of Ministers to transfer 40% of shares of the Yugadanavi Power Plant in Kerawalapitiya to a US firm.

The Cabinet of Ministers, including Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Secretary to the Cabinet, the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, the US firm New Fortress and the Attorney General have been cited as respondents.

Claiming that the above transfer of shares is unjustified, MP Madduma Bandara requested the Supreme Court to rule that the decision reached by the Cabinet of Ministers to transfer the shares without a fair study violates Fundamental Rights of citizens.
