Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) General Secretary Udaya Gammanpila said no one could stop Gotabaya Rajapaksa becoming the next president.
Addressing a news briefing, he said both the UNP and the JVP had tried their level best to prove that Gotabaya was neither fit nor eligible to contest at the presidential poll.
“However, their attempts have now become futile with Gotabaya being unanimously chosen as their presidential candidate and clearing him from all barriers like US citizenship, foreign cases etc,” Gammanpila said.
When journalists asked as to whether he would remain in the party despite people like Rishad Bathiudeen joining hands with them, he said they would not support any candidate who welcomes Bathiudeen.
Meanwhile, he said it was of no use for President Maithripala Sirisena to seek the opinion of the Supreme Court over the possibility of holding provincial council elections because the need of the country at the moment is a formidable leader for the country.
