Navin to decide soon if he will accept UNP National Organizer post

United National Party member Navin Dissanayake yesterday said that although he had been offered the post of National Organizer of the UNP last week, he would make a decision soon whether he would take up this post, stating that several realistic proposals which had been made to leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had been ignored to date.

Dissanayake said that within the past six months, some senior UNP members had been attempting to make meaningful reforms within the party but this had gone unheard and he would make a decision soon if he would continue with the post offered.

"We have been calling for meaningful reforms to take the party on a winning path," Dissanayake said.

"I was given the position of the National Organizer again but our group was suggesting a different formula. But the leader has gone with a different formula. So I am basically going to decide whether I will retain my national organizer post or not and I will decide that in the next few days," Dissanayake said.

"At the moment, I will not leave the party. I just want to clarify and see what role I will be getting and whether I can effectively work as a team member because of the recent appointments made to the party. I have no problem with Mr. Wickremesinghe on a personal level and not even Ruwan Wijewardene. But with other appointments, I do have an issue on how those appointments have been made. Whether I can fit in as a team member or not is something I have to decide," Dissanayake said.

He further went on to say that the UNP was not a personal property of any individual or family and it was a party which his father had sacrificed his life for.as national members of the party, he said they had to logically think about the future of the party and would continue to call for the necessary reforms to take the party back on a winning streak.
