UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will enter Parliament on the National List at the right time taking into account the situation of the country within the next couple of years, party’s new Chairman Vajira Abeywardene said yesterday.
Mr.abeywardene told a press conference that no one else will fill the vacancy till Mr. Wickremesinghe decides as to when he should go to Parliament.
“The party will look at what Sri Lanka’s situation is in August next year and then the final decision on the national list slot will be made by the party leader. What the party leader had told us was that the time is not right for him to go to Parliament now. Therefore it is likely that no one else will go to Parliament even on a temporary basis.there is provision to.keep the national list slot open as per the Constitution,” he said.
“If someone else claims that he or she is eligible to be sworn in as UNP national list MP that person does not understand politics,” he added.(Daily Mirror)
