Since 2022, UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has been leading a Project on Integrated Policy Strategies and Regional Policy Coordination for Resilient, Green and Transformative Development supporting selected Asian Belt and Road (BRI) partner countries, namely, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Malaysia and Pakistan in their efforts to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to green transformation.
The Project specifically assisted the selected countries in achieving the SDGs through developing effective integrated policy strategies to address key challenges related to green industrial development, improving capacity at the national level to design appropriate policies, including South-South peer-learning and strengthening economic cooperation and policy coordination at the regional level.
On 09th and 10th July, UNCTAD hosted a regional dialogue in Shanghai, China in collaboration with Chinese Academy for International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC) for experts and local partners in project countries as well as invited experts and officials from other countries to share insights on evolving green transformation policy agendas and relevant policy debates and issues. Sri Lanka was included in the meeting for the first time and Ms. Chamindry Saparamadu, Executive Director of DevPro Sri Lanka (former Director General of the Sustainable Development Council of Sri Lanka) and Mr. Indika Premarathne, Additional Director General of the National Planning Department were invited to the meeting to share insights on opportunities and challenges for green development in Sri Lanka.
