President authorises Rs.1,224 Bn from Consolidated Fund

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has authorised a total of Rs.1,224.9 billion from the Consolidated Fund for the uninterrupted continuation of Government services and development activities from March to the end of May.

The Treasury has issued a Circular to all Ministry Secretaries, Provincial Council Chief Secretaries and Heads of Departments informing them of the revised provisions.

The Circular, undersigned by Treasury Secretary S.R.Attygalle, has been issued by the National Budget Department also incorporating balance provisions of the Vote of Account valid till April 31.

Out of the authorized sum, Rs. 713.8 billion has been allocated for recurrent expenditure while Rs. 511.1 billion has been allocated for capital expenditure for the three months.

The President has authorised the above expenditure in terms of the provisions of Paragraph (3) of Article 150 of the Constitution.

According to the Circular, the highest allocation of Rs. 682.3 billion has been made to the Finance, Economic and Policy Development Ministry, while the Defence Ministry has been allocated Rs. 104 billion. The Healthcare and Indigenous Medical Services Ministry has been allocated Rs. 63 billion, taking into account the current COVID-19 situation.

These provisions for each Ministry and spending agency stand till the end of May.
