A six-member committee has proposed to the President's Office to merge 50 selected institutions from the 300-strong state institution body.
The proposal also aims to slash expenditures of these institutions. Recommendations for the appointment of Chairmen and Directors of about 200 state Institutions have been forwarded to the Presidential Secretariat and appropriate appointments for these are to are to be completed soon.
The six-member committee chaired by Sumith Abeysinghe, also includes Susantha Rathnayake, Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, Dian Gomes, Dr. Prasanna Gunaratne, Prof. Jagath Wellawatte.
It is said that the committee has proposed three names for each post while the Presidential Secretariat would finalise the appropriate candidate.
However, Mr. Susantha Ratnayake and Prof. Jagath Wellawatte, who represented the Committee, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Investment Promotion and Chairman of Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation respectively.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Mr. Sumith Abeysinghe and Nalaka Godahewa will be contesting the forthcoming general election.
