Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa told Daily News yesterday that homeless people will be provided with houses under ‘A house to each village’ programme which will commence next year.
Over 14,022 new houses will be set up assisted by the Samurdhi Development Officers, the PM said. Housing State Minister Indika Anuruddha has been instructed in this regard. “The homeless people will be provided with houses by the Housing Facilities Ministry and the Urban Development Authority covering the whole country,” Mahinda Rajapaksa said.
The Prime Minister added that about 14,022 Grama Niladhari Divisions in the country and GN division will be granted Rs. 2 million each to expedite rural development projects.
Rural youth will get job opportunities under the programme and it will commence in January. The Cabinet has approved the proposal in this regard now, the PM added.
