State agencies efficiency boosted with web based programs

Sri Lanka’s key State agencies will be made more efficient and effective with the introduction of several web based computer programs.

The new government has launched this programme to meet the challenges in present era and prepared to be congenial to the 21 century.

These programs were introduced by the Department of Information Technology Management of the Finance Ministry

All the Custom Department services of the import sector are to be provided through a single window. Sri Lanka Customs performs as the main hub for monitoring international trade. Therefore, all the relevant government institutions are bound with this service.

The main objective of the government is to bring about public enterprises efficient and profitable. Monitoring and regulating of public enterprises are significant for this purpose.

The Public Enterprises Department Information System (PEDMIS) and the updated Payroll Software will be facilitated for such activities of all Public Service officers in this field.

It is also hoped to use e-technology to minimize delays in correspondence in the office which is a thumping cause of public service delays.

The Department of Information Technology Management in the finance Ministry intends to provide the software management system that has been introduced for this purpose in the any public institution or department.

It is expected that the software is to provide online authorization and required services, reducing the use of paper and eliminating unnecessary delays as well as procuring a more efficient service.

These websites have been developed and open source software is used that it is highly laudable and Digital technology can too be used for financial transactions between the government and the private institutions.

This program has been prepared without additional expenditure as an internal development of the Department of Information Technology Management with the help of a group of Sri Lankan youths who are studying in the field of Information Technology.

Previously, when the bids were called by a foreign institution, the estimated cost for this program was US $. Eight million. However, the Ministry of Finance has been able to provide these programs without any cost.
