Government spends Rs. 360 on every

The government spends Rs. 360 on every voter who votes at the Presidential election, said the National Organizer for the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV).

He noted that this figure was estimated based on the statement made by the Election Commission that Rs. 5.5 billion.

He said this at a media briefing held at the Hector Kobbekaduwa Research Institute.

In 2005 the Election Department spent Rs. 712 million which amounts to Rs. 54 per voter, at the 2010 presidential election Rs. 1825 million Rs. 1.825 billion was spent amounting to Rs. 132 per voter. In 2015 the Election Department spent Rs. 2.705 billion for the presidential election with Rs. 180 being spent per voter.
