Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has been given a fresh date to appear before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCOI) investigating fraud and corruption.
The PCOI had summoned the Prime Minister to appear on September 12 (tomorrow) at 9.30am.
However he has informed the PCOI that he is unable to appear tomorrow.
As a result the PCOI has asked him to appear on September 16.
He has been asked to appear to give evidence on a complaint regarding the Agriculture Ministry’s building.
The Government has been accused of corruption when purchasing a new building for the Agriculture Ministry.
The Agriculture Ministry had vacated the Battaramulla building in 2015 after the Prime Minister had put forward a cabinet proposal to use the building for the activities of 17 Parliamentary Sectoral Oversight Committees.
As a result the Ministry later purchased a new building by paying a monthly rent of Rs 21.5 million.
