Power cuts reduces to 8.5 hours today

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has approved power cuts of eight hours and 30 minutes for today, as requested by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

Given the limited supply of fuel for thermal power plants, the CEB had requested for load shedding, electricity regulator said.


Earlier this week, Sri Lanka had 13 hours of power cuts in several parts of the country.

• Areas ABCDEF: Four hours from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., three hours from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and one hour and 30 minutes from 9 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.

• Areas GHIJKL: Four hours from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., three hours from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and one hour and 30 minutes from 10.30 p.m. to 12 a.m.

• Areas PQRS: Four hours from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., three hours from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and one hour and 30 minutes from 9 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.

• Areas TUVW: Two hours from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., three hours from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and one hour and 30 minutes from 10.30 p.m. to 12 a.m.

• Areas MNOXYZ: Three hours and 30 minutes from 5.30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
