President begins Cambodia state visit

President Maithripala Sirisena began a four day state visit to Cambodia yesterday on an invitation extended by the Cambodian Government. Large photographs of the President and of Mrs. Sirisena were displayed alongside that of Cambodia’s titular monarch at main junctions in Pnom Penh.

The visit is aimed to extend longstanding relations between Sri Lanka and Cambodia to new fields and further develop mutual benefits, the President Media Unit said in a statement.

It stated that President Maithripala Sirisena was offered a rousing welcome by a high level Cambodian Government delegation led by Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Kings Palace Khieu Kanharith. When he arrived at the Phnom Penh International Airport yesterday morning.

During his visit President Sirisena is scheduled to meet King Norodom Sihamoni and hold bilateral talks with a high level Cambodian Government delegation including Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. During these talks special attention will be drawn towards the widening of economic, trade, tourism and Buddhist relations between the two countries and enter into Several relevant bilateral agreements.

President Sirisena was also due to attend the inaugural sessions of the Sri Lanka-Cambodia business conference yesterday afternoon.
