Rs. 664 from Suraksha for students in seven months

The Suraksha insurance policy has provided Rs. 664 million for students from December 1, 2018 to July 18 this year.

The insurance policy was set up covering all students (4.5 million) in the country. From its inception in 2017, the Education Ministry has received 14,003 insurance claims from schoolchildren in last eight months, Education Ministry sources said.

Students between age 5 and 21 in state, private and international schools and Pirivenas are covered with the Suraksha insurance policy.

Suraksha was launched by the Education Ministry in October, 2017. It has been extremely beneficial for the children. The scheme was introduced as a Free Medical and Personal Accident Cover by a reputed insurance company.

“The daily allowance for a hospitalisation was increased from Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 3,000. The coverage for external treatments was doubled to Rs. 20,000,” the Education Ministry sources said.

A student receives Rs. 200,000 for inward treatment at a government or a private hospital, Rs. 20,000 for OPD treatments. The full amount is paid for a critical ailment. Rs. 200,000 is paid in the event of a death of a parent.
