Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today instructed the heads of banks to focus on granting a grace period instead of taking over the properties of entrepreneurs who were unable to repay their bank loans due to the Easter Sunday attack and COVID-19 pandemic
He made these remarks at a discussion held at the Finance Ministry regarding the temporary suspension on acquisition of property of entrepreneurs who are unable to repay bank loans.
Accordingly, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and the relevant banks to reach a final decision on providing relief to the financial problems faced by the entrepreneurs.
Premier Rajapaksa pointed out that such issues have existed for a long time and it is important to resolve them in a manner that does not harm any party.
