Health Ministry orders to vaccinate aged 30 and above in Colombo and Gampaha

Sri Lankan health ministry announced on Friday that it has decided to vaccinate all the public aged 30 and above residing in the Grama Niladhari divisions at high risk of spreading COVID-19 in Colombo and Gampaha districts from today.

The latest move comes as Sri Lanka is witnessing a spike of the COVID-19 patients in recent weeks with the majority coming from the Colombo and Gampaha districts. During the last 24 hours, 466 patients were detected and more than half of it came from Colombo and Gampaha.

The Director General of Health Services instructed the officials to identify the high risk areas in Colombo and Gampaha and give the vaccine to those aged 30 and above.

The DG has also given instructions to vaccinate permanent and as well as temporary residents belonging to the above age group in the selected Grama Niladhari divisions.

Sri Lankan began it’s COVID-19 inoculation drive in January, by giving the vaccine firstly to the frontline health workers and thereafter to the public. So far, the vaccine has been given to more than 406,000 persons.
