The Department for Registration of Persons today said the issuance of National Identity Cards had been temporarily halted following a systems error.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror one of its senior officials said the department had to halt the whole process of issuing IDs following the sudden crash in the system from this morning.
He said the Information Technology Department is working on rectifying the error.
"All the applications received by yesterday had been processed and relevant IDs had been issued by last evening. But following the sudden system crash the process had to halt," he said.
We have even stopped accepting applications from persons as the system cannot be used to enter them.
The Department issues about 1, 200 IDs as an average per day, the official said.
