A group of foreign artists and journalists who had come to the country to participate in the function organised annually by the SAARC Secretariat concurrent to the SAARC film festival, are worried as this function has been cancelled on the grounds that there is no security.
It is said that this event had been cancelled based on advice issued by the Foreign Ministry.
This film festival was scheduled to be held from May 07th to the 12th but was postponed and it is now held from July 02 to the 07th.
This function is being organised to connect local artists and journalists with others in the region and it was scheduled to be held at Mövenpick Hotel tomorrow (05).
A senior journalist told Sri Lanka Mirror that it is at this function that journalists get the opportunity to schedule interviews with these famous artists.
It is reported that artists from the Philippines, Iran and Bosnia have arrived in the country for the selection of films presented at the film festival.
Further, a group of artists are also in the country representing the SAARC countries.
However, our attempts to contact the Director of the SAARC Secretariat Renuka Ekanayake regarding this matter, out attempts proved futile.
