Sri Lanka takes major step towards strengthening capacities to undertake advance peace building reforms and transitional justice process.
A Public Complaint Management System (PCMS) of the National Police Commission (NPC) was launched today enabling the public to file their complaints at provincial level rather than making a trip to the Head Office of the NPC.
This is a web-based solution that will link all NPC offices through a single system, streamline public complaint investigation processes, and improve the monitoring, reporting and data analysis capacity of the NPC.
The International Organization of Migration (IOM) has provided technical assistance to the National Police Commission (NPC) to develop and operationalize this Management System (PCMS).
IOM says it is committed to assist the NPC in their mission to foster a safe, secure and peaceful society through a credible, independent and professional police service.
"IOM continue to support the National Police Commission to deliver their mandate to contribute towards establishing an independent and professional police service," the organization said.
The National Police Commission stated that around 50 complaints are made daily against Sri Lanka Police and Police Officers.
NPC said investigations have already begun on the complaints made up to now.
The new system was introduced under the UNDP funding and Provincial Detectives will be assigned to investigate the complaints.
He added that under the new system the complainant will be able to obtain information on the progress of the investigations taking place.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was the chief guest at the launching ceremony of the PCMS yesterday ( Friday 28).
