Issuing a weather forecast for today, the Meteorological Department said there could be thundershowers in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.
They said thundershowers could be expected in Uva and the Eastern provinces in the evening or night.
The general public are cautioned to be vigilant and take extreme care as strong winds could sweep through during heavy rains and dangers caused by severe lightning.
The gale could intensify and gather speeds up to 40 to 50 km/h over the island, particularly on the western slope of the central hills, in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, Southern, and Western provinces.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said 114 people in 29 families in Sabaragamuwa and North Central Provinces have been affected due to the heavy rain and squall in the areas.
Moreover, 27 houses were partially damaged, while no damage or deaths were reported so far due to the extreme weather conditions, the DMC assessed. (Daily Mirror)
