Heavy rains exceeding 100 mm is expected in some parts of the country because of an unusual activation of South West Monsoon conditions over the country, Department of Meteorology said today.
A spokesman from the Department told Daily Mirror that the Southwest Monsoon conditions have got activated within the month of August for the first time in the recent past. " We don't see the Southwest Monsoon getting activated within August in the recent years" the spokesman said.
"Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the coming days," the department said.
In addition rains are expected in Uva province, along the Western slopes of the central hills and in Hambantota District. High winds are expected along the seas off the island.(Daily Mirror)
