Laksala Chairman dies after contracting Covid

Laksala and Salu Sala Chairman Pradeep Gunawardana has died after contracting COVID-19.

Gunawardena had passed away while receiving treatment at the Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Hospital in Werahera.

This is the latest death to be reported due to COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.

Twenty-one (21) COVID-19 related deaths were reported yesterday, raising the total death toll in Sri Lanka to 962.

The Government Information Department said 20 of the deaths were reported between 11th to the 16th of May, while one death was reported on the 7th of May.

The victims have been identified as 16 males and five females between the ages of 37 to 83.

They are residents of Imaduwa, Muruthagahamula, Anuradhapura, Moratuwa, Meerigama, Ingiriya, Bulathsinhala, Neboda, Badulla, Gelioya, Jaffna, Handapangoda, Habaraduwa, Embilipitiya, Nakiyadeniya, Galle, Kadawatha, Haliela, Mahayyawa, and Kalutara South.

A majority of the victims have died due to Covid pneumonia, while some have suffered complications from other existing illnesses as a result of the COVID-19 infection.
