A part of the Nuwara Eliya District are among the latest areas isolated in Sri Lanka.
The Government said that the Panangammana Grama Niladhari Division in the Kotmale Police area in the Nuwara Eliya District has been isolated from today.
Subhathra Lanka Mawatha in the Anandakulam Grama Niladhari Division in the Trincomalee Police area in the Trincomalee District has also been isolated from today.
Several areas in Sri Lanka are currently placed under isolation as a result of the third wave of the coronavirus.
Army Commander General Shavendra Silva told Colombo Gazette earlier that essential services will be permitted to enter isolated areas.
This includes the delivery of food and essential items, such as vegetable and essential goods trucks, he explained.
General Shavendra Silva said all essential services that were permitted during the lockdown imposed following the first and second wave of the coronavirus will be permitted during the isolation enforced at present.
He further said that the health authorities were monitoring the third wave of the coronavirus which is spreading at a rapid pace.
The third wave of the virus emerged in Sri Lanka following the Sinhala and Tamil New Year,
Over 1500 Covid cases have been reported in the country on a daily basis since the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in April.
New health guidelines were also issued, prohibiting several public activities, in a bid to curtail the spread of the virus. (Colombo Gazette)
