Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna former MP Bimal Rathnayake publicly urged the Director General of Health Dr. Anil Jasinghe to issue guidelines to all media institutes on reporting COVID-19 epidemic.
Rathnayake requested DG Health to guide media to avoid racist, religiophobic, xenophobic, discriminatory and prejudiced reporting on patients, people under quarantine, health and other professionals as soon as possible.
Rathnayake also said that it would be effective if the DG Health could introduce tailor-made guide lines to media institutions in the country in keeping with the already available guidelines on reporting COVID-19.Rathnayake made this request in his official Twitter message yesterday (29).
