Uvindu Wijeweera, the son of former JVP Leader Rohana Wijeweera is said to be contesting the upcoming general election under the Sri Lanka Podujana Pakshaya (SLPP).
He had discussed this matter with President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa recently.
During this discussion, the President had suggested that Uvindu contest from the Colombo District. However, though Uvindu had not conveyed his stand on this suggestion, he prefers contesting from the Gampaha District.
Despite a request made for him to contest from his father’s seat in Hambantota, Uvindu is not in favour of it, it is reported.
Rohana Wijeweera’s wife Chitranganie Wijeweera had also participated in this discussion with the President and Prime Minister.
However, a person who was in politics during Wijeweera’s time said Uvindu’s decision to contest under the SLPP is contrary to his father’s views.
It was also reported recently that the Gampaha people do not vote intelligently during elections.
