Former Eastern Province Governor M.L.A.M Hizbullah yesterday denied media statements that said the Batticaloa Campus Private Limited was a centre for Sharia teachings.
Testifying before the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the Easter Sunday terror attack yesterday, he said this university was set up for the sake of the students of low-income families in the area.
“We have presented our syllabus in writing. This university has no religious subjects,”Hizbullah said. He said this was a Rs.3.6 billion worth investment and he is ready to go for any Public - Private Partnership with the government with regard to the management of the university. He also said the university is open for students of all communities. The Vice-Chancellor and several other top posts were to be held by Sinhalese Buddhists. But recently they vacated their positions due to the objections levelled against them.
