The government has focussed its attention on investigating a building rented out at a cost of Rs. 310 million in Rajagiriya to house the Rural Development Office, it is reported.
The building rented out from a private company is at a cost of Rs. 12.7 million per month. This monthly electricity bill for this 1800 square foot building is over 850,000.
This building had been rented for the use of the former Rural Development Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka during the previous regime for a period of five years from 2016 to 2021.
However, the previous government had obtained Cabinet approval for the renting of this building.
