Ranjan granted bail

Arrested Parliamentarian, former State Minister Ranjan Ramanayake was released on two surety bails of Rs.500,000 each after being produced before the Gangodawila Magistrate yesterday.

The MP was arrested by the Colombo South Crime Division (CSCD) for not possessing a renewed license for his official pistol at the Parliament Members’ Housing Complex in Madiwela on Saturday evening.

A travel ban was also imposed on the MP by the Magistrate yesterday.

According to Police, the CSCD officers had searched the MP’s house with a search warrant obtained from the Gangodawila (Nugegoda) Magistrate on the doubt of possessing a data-storage with call records but ended up with this pistol and 127 live bullets.

The police officers had also taken a hard disk, nearly 200 CDs, a laptop and several documents into custody along with the pistol. However, a further report issued to the media by the Police Media Division last evening said those CDs are suspected to contain phone conversations relating to the investigations being carried out by the CID, FCID or the Bribery Commission of Sri Lanka.

Further investigations are being carried out by the CSCD.
