Western Province Governor A.J.M. Muzammil said in Kinniya, an eastern town in the Trincomalee District, that Gotabaya Rajapaksa, if elected, will ensure the security and safety of all citizens in the country.
The Governor was speaking at an election campaign in support of Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Kinniya in the Trincomalee District.
Muzammil said Rajapaksa has been a person who could understand the needs of the society. “I am very confident that he will be an impartial president who could serve the nation in a manner which would satisfy the people,” he noted, recalling that during his mayoralty in Colombo, the then-Defence Secretary Rajapaksa helped him beautify the city to create a peaceful and pleasant environment for the people. Predicting the results of the upcoming presidential polls, Muzammil said there will be a landslide victory for Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who will be elected President of Sri Lanka.
Recalling how Muslims were harassed during the past four years of UNP rule, Muzammil said that Muslims were living in fear and their properties were damaged during the ‘Yahapalana’ Government. “During these attacks, I can’t remember a day when Sajith Premadasa visited one of the affected areas or the damaged mosques,” Muzammil said, urging the masses not to be duped by the crocodile tears of these people who try to sympathise with Muslim’s travails.
While respecting the status and stature of the late President Ranasinghe Premadasa, the Governor said that he cannot be compared to his son, Sajith Premadasa, who lacks political experience. “These days Sajith Premadasa has become a Santa Claus, who promises heaven in the island without realising the extent of their implementation,” the Governor said.
