Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa will receive a seventy-five per cent of the Sinhala votes in the upcoming presidential election, SLPP Chairman Prof G.L Peiris said.
Peiris told reporters at SLPP Headquarters this morning (14), Peiris that the result of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha reflects the opinion of all people of the country as a whole.
“No one should think that only Sinhala people have this type of strong feeling. I can clearly say that seventy-five per cent of Sinhala people will vote Gotabaya Rajapaksa on the 16th of November. But, we need the support of all ethnicities. Gotabaya Rajapaksa will not only represent Sinhalese people but he will represent all the people irrespective of their race or religion,” Peiris said.
Commenting further, Peiris said that at present SLPP has attained to win the hearts of the Muslims and Tamils as well.
“The Muslims have now realized that they were deceived in the year 2015. Under the Yahapalana Government only Digana, Teldeniya and Akurana incidents occurred. When Aluthgama clashes occurred, they created false stories about us. But After the Digana incident, Muslims came and asked for help from Mahinda Rajapaksa.”
“What is the situation of Tamil people now? They do not even have what they had. Eastern Provincial Council is defunct for more than two years. This is the destiny of the Tamil people. Their votes were taken by giving sky-high hopes. But now they are completely ignored. The opinion of the Tamils has changed at present. They do not hold the same stance which they held in the year 2015. Therefore, Elpitiya results reflected the opinion of all citizens,” Peiris added.
