The United National Party has decided to suspend the party membership of Weligama Mayor - Rohan D. Jayawickreme over a disciplinary issue, says party General secretary - Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
However, it is said that the move was prompted by Mr. Jayawickreme's recent decision to send a letter to the party leader - PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, which noted that the UNP was in a dire need of a leadership change. The letter had further urged Mr. Wickremesinghe to consider this fact and resign.
