The Democratic United Front alliance is scheduled to be announced during the first week of September, an UNP-MP told Sri Lanka Mirror.
It is also reported that the UNP presidential candidate would be revealed at a public rally scheduled to be held at the Galle Face in the second week of September.
However, currently there is a three pronged fight for presidential candidacy from the UNP.
The three likely candidates are Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa and Soeaker Karu Jayasuriya.
In the event the UNP fields its candidate for this presidential election, it would be after a lapse of 15 years.
However, irrespective of who becomes the president his powers would be limited under the 19th amendment.
While Ranil and Karu are trying to get themselves nominated based on the MPs and working committee approval, Sajith is trying to get the support of the people.
Another rally to promote Sajith has been organized in Matara on August 23rd at the Sanath Jayasuriya Stadium.
This rally will be organized by Minister Mangala Samaraweera and many UNP-MPs are expected to attend.
Subsequent to the public rally in Matara, the UNP will organize their public rally at Galle Face to announce their presidential candidate in September.
