Gota and Mahinda will have ‘one plan’ to lead the country – Rohitha

Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa will definitely become the next President and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa the Prime Minister, and the two will lead the country with one plan and a strong bond, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian Rohitha Abeygunawardana said.

Addressing a press conference held at SLPP Head Office today (12), the MP said that unlike President Maithripala Siriena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who could not work with each other Gotabaya and Mahinda will think about the future of the country.

“In the year 2015 both the President and Prime Minister got into the same stage and they won the election but how is the situation now? Can the President and the Prime Minister be on the same stage now? The answer is no. So their compatibility has become an incompatibility,” Abeygunawardana said.

The MP further said that other than one or two parliamentarians in the SLFP, the majority of SLFP members support Gotabaya at the Presidential elections.

Asked what position President Maithripala Sirisena will receive in the new government if SLFP supports SLPP in the Presidential election Abeygunawardana said that the party has let the President and former President discuss that matter.

However, the MP later denied that Malinda and Sirisena are discussing the position which Sirisena is going to receive.

‘I didn’t say that the former President and President Sirisena are discussing the position which the President is going to receive in the new government. We don’t really ask about the things they discuss,” the MP added.
