Hirunuka claims her phone number misused for social media websites

Former MP Hirunuka Premachandra today revealed that her phone number had been used by some group of men who run a false website and carry out various misdeeds using pictures of pretty girls which they download from Facebook.

Ms Premachandra told a press conference that her phone number has been used as the contact number of a pretty girl whose picture they have downloaded from Facebook. “These persons are engaged in downloading pictures of pretty girls from their Facebook account and include phone numbers of other people as their respective contact number. They market these girls this way. They have used my phone number as the contact number of a young pretty girl whose picture they have downloaded from her Facebook account. I became aware of this when a young boy called me. I identified myself when this boy contacted me and he tendered an apology and asked me not to lodge a complaint with the police,” she said.

“Many women have suffered sexual harassment online while domestic violence has increased since the COVID 19 pandemic began in this country. This is because Sri Lankan men are suffering from severe sexual pressure. It is high time sex education was included in the school curriculum and children are thought what is a ‘bad touch’ and a ‘good touch’,” she said.

Referring to the FR case she had filed, Ms Premachandra said she only wanted to find out the procedure under which President Gotabaya Rajapaksa granted a pardon to former MP Duminda Silva. “I had a grudge with Mr Silva but got rid of it after I became a mother as I thought what his mother would have felt when he was subjected to the death sentence. Also, I wonder as to why the others who were sentenced to death with him were not given a pardon. Also, it is a bad precedent as any powerful person would think they could survive by killing a person as they could obtain a presidential pardon,” she also said. (Daily Mirror)
