Pallewatta asks to resign

Rohan Pallewatta, who is preparing to run as a candidate for the next presidential election, says the removal of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on October 23 and the inclusion of the current Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister is a violation of the Constitution.

In an interview with BBC Sinhala Service he said that he would not hold office for one minute if this happened him.

He said that a country needs that example and also questions the moral right to hold the presidency after violating the supreme law of a country.

Rajapaksa brothers will not be a part of my government

Pallewatte, who is also a cousin of President Maithripala Sirisena, said that no brother of the Rajapaksa family will be made a part of his government.

The slogan saying no to all 225 in the parliament was created by his Social Democratic Party, he added.

He further stated that some MPs have come forward to support him and that he has turned down their offers.
