A group deployed by the Commonwealth to observe the presidential election in Sri Lanka has called on stakeholders to demonstrate commitment to a “peaceful, transparent, credible and inclusive” poll.

ජනාධිපතිවරණය සම්බන්ධයෙන් තානාපති කාර්යාල හතරක් වෙන වෙනම සමීක්ෂණ සිදු කර ඇත. ඇමෙරිකාව, ඉන්දියාව, චීනය සහ කියුබාව යන රටවල තානාපති කාර්යාලය මෙම සමීක්ෂණ සිදුකර ඇති අතර එහි අවසන් වාර්තාව හෙට (10) වැනිදා ඔවුන් ලබා ගැනීමට බලාපොරොත්තු වන බව එම තානාපති කාර්යාල ආරංචි මාර්ග සඳහන් කරයි.

On 5-6 November, Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force Air Marshal Sumangala Dias, together with Air Commodore Kithsiri Leelaratne, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, and Defence Attache of the Sri Lankan Embassy Group Captain Uditha Piyasena had a series of working meetings with senior representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defence and Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation to facilitate further military interaction and cooperation between the countries.

A four-member delegation headed by Commissioner General of Inland Revenue of Sri Lanka A.N. Guruge successfully concluded the first round of negotiations on the Agreement for Elimination of Double Taxation between Sri Lanka and Cyprus from 29-31 October in Nicosia, Cyprus. Both sides, considering the future potential of promotion of trade, investment and commercial partnerships between the two countries, agreed to finalise the long pending agreement during the final round of negotiations to be held in February next year in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Consulate General in Cyprus, in consultation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka, coordinated the process.

The Commonwealth is deploying a team to observe the Presidential Election in Sri Lanka. A ten member Commonwealth Observer Group, led by former Ghanaian Minister of Interior Prosper Bani, will observe the polls, which take place on 16 November.

Alliance Air announced that it would be commencing commercial air services between Jaffna International Airport (JAF) and Chennai International Airport (MAA) today, according to Sri Lanka Civil Aviation Authority Director-General, H.M.C Nimalsiri.

Alliance Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of Air India is all set to expand globally and commence commercial flight operations from Jaffna International Airport to Chennai International Airport from 11 November. The airline is pleased to announce that there will be direct flight operations connecting the two cities on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

India and Sri Lanka yesterday discussed mutual cooperation in the field of Law and Information Technology (IT).
