Sri Lanka seeks UN assistance to bring back refugees from India

Sri Lanka has sought UN assistance to bring back Sri Lankan refugees living in India.

UNDP Country Director Joern Soerensen called on the Governor of the Northern Province Dr. Suren Raghavan at the Governor’s Secretariat in Jaffna.

Soerensen briefed the Governor on the development projects carried out by the UNDP in the Northern Province.

The Governor sought the assistance of the UNDP to implement the ‘Vadamarachchi Lagoon Project’ to address the water problem faced by the people of the North.

The discussion also focused on Sri Lankan refugees living in India, the Media Unit of Northern Province Governor said.

The Governor requested the UN to assist in bringing back the refugees to Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
