Sri Lanka-Canada Business Council visits Canada

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Ottawa and the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Toronto facilitated a visit of a delegation from the Sri Lanka-Canada Business Council (SLCBC) of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce headed by its President Priyantha Chandrasekara. The recent visit which covered Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Vancouver took place from 14 to 22 October. 

The nine-member delegation had constructive engagements with members of Canadian business chambers and entities, relevant government officials and academic institutions on strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation, attracting investment opportunities and capacity building programs. 

The visit provided an ideal platform for participants to explore opportunities in sectors such as education, smart agriculture, IT, tourism, and infrastructure, with a specific focus on Colombo Port City and the Kankesanthurai Industrial Processing Zone.

During the visit, the delegation took part in a meeting with High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Canada, Mohammed Jauhar and senior officials of the High Commission. A meeting with representatives of Global Affairs Canada had also been arranged at the High Commission. Moreover, a networking dinner was hosted at the official residence of the High Commissioner.

Furthermore, the delegation paid a courtesy call on Federal Member of Parliament, Chandra Arya and engaged in a productive discussion. They also had interactions with the Canada Sri Lanka Business Convention (CSBC), the Scarborough Business Association, Japura-Canada Alumni Association and the Can Lanka Business Association, Council of Ontario Universities and the Surrey Board of Trade. 

The visit of the SLCBC delegation was coordinated by Consul General of Sri Lanka, Thushara Rodrigo and Counsellor of the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Ottawa, Kumarasamy Kiritharan.
